Boulder Retaining Walls

Boulder Retaining Walls

Spokane’s best landscaper for building boulder retaining walls!

It’s common in the Inland Northwest to have sloped land.  Custom Creations Landscape can take your unusable land and create something that not only is functional, but is beautiful, too!

What a retaining wall does.

Boulder retaining walls, rock walls and retaining walls made of different hardscaping, protect your land from gravity.  Erosion from the amount of precipitation the Inland Northwest gets will cause slides, or down slope movement.  Supporting vertical or near-vertical grade is not only safer for everyone, but can open that land to being used for something.

Ideas for your new space.

Depending on the amount of land created by your new retaining wall and how many levels you add to it, you can really get creative!  Garden areas are probably the most popular, but you can have a patio area, put in a water feature or fire pit, too.  With Custom Creations Landscape’s free consultation and design, we’ll go through the possibilities with you so you get the most out of your property.

Other functions of retaining walls.

Even with level property, adding a retaining wall for protection against slide offs, especially in rural areas where the roads are narrow, will give you a sense of comfort and safety.  Property definition when a fence isn’t really wanted or needed can be something to consider as well.  With any sized yard, a retaining wall can add another level to your outdoor space.  It’s a great way to add interest and space, especially in a smaller yard.

Which wall is best for you?

With any type of wall, you’ll need what are called “weeping holes”.  This will prevent water from building on either your side, or your neighbors.  With boulder and rock walls, the weeping holes are already there.  With brick or other hardscape, those weeping holes need to be installed.  Boulder and rock walls are considered “gravity walls”.  They don’t require an underground base or an anchor, so they generally less expensive.

Here’s an example of how strong a rock wall is:  “Its pretty impressive how strong boulder walls are. That truck weighs 52 tons and its right on top of the wall. I can’t wait to see this project completed.”   ** Photo and quote courtesy of NW Rock N Dirt
